nLighten - Network Monitoring

To get data via SNMP, you don't have to keep track of MIB files, know what community string goes with what device and other things that are common headaches with other monitoring tools.

If your system uses customised community strings, simply add them to the list of community strings via the nLighten web interface.

When you add new hosts, nLighten will try out all of the available strings until it finds one that works on that device, and then it will add SNMP monitoring automatically.

nLighten will automatically configure detailed monitoring of all your servers and network equipment by probing the IP addresses supplied. The configuration is completed on the first day of use for most organisations, and in less than a week for larger organisations.

When you add servers to nLighten, running programs will be automatically detected and monitoring of them configured.

Most common applications are supported, and support for new applications is added continuously.

When you add a new device to nLighten for monitoring, nLighten will scan the ports on that device, query client applications and SNMP to determine what is running and what should be monitored.

This makes adding a new device a task that takes less than a minute, compared to possibly hours with other monitoring tools. It also allows the easy addition on components within monitored devices, for example : adding a hard drive – simply click the rescan button and it will make sure that all is up to date.

By utilising the web based login page, featuring news both on nLighten and on the IT industry, making it easy for you to keep up to date with what is going on both with nLighten and in the wider world.

Using photo maps and customised overviews, you can make your monitoring look exactly the way you want it. These allow custom displays to be monitored not only on your workstation but also projected onto much larger wall mounted Monitors for departmental information.

nLighten alerts are customisable at every level, nLighten can send an email message. This allows you to know immediately when something has happened, forward the email to whomever should fix it or simply to keep an archive of faults in a separate mailbox.

If you want very important alerts to be sent out via SMS to your mobile phone, nLighten supports SMS messaging. (dependant on third party SMS forwarding contract)

For both email and SMS, you can tell nLighten what time of day you want notifications, and set a maximum limit on the number of messages to protect your phone and email account in case of major network issues. You can also cap the number of messages nLighten will send.

Easy to use web interface, allows you to access your nLighten portal from anywhere, from any computer without having to install additional client software.

On many checks – bandwidth usage, CPU usage, IRQ per second, Memory and many more – you can look at graphs of the performance over time.

The graphs allow for average, max and min values so that a graph, even over several months, will be easy to view. You can also download the data as a spreadsheet.

Bandwidth monitoring will be automatically set up for all your devices with SNMP. It will automatically detect interface speed and set up temporary alarm thresholds.

Ethernet frame errors will also be detected and alerted upon.

For each interface being monitored, graphs will be available where you can view the bandwidth usage over time.

Using a software agent that is easy and quick to install, you will see out of the box details such as CPU Usage, Memory, Disk usage, IRQ:s per second and information about running programs. The monitoring can also be extended to include any performance counter available.

In addition customised monitoring can be set up for most business critical applications.

Using a free – GPL licensed – agent called rinfo, your UNIX systems will be automatically detected and configured in nLighten, and the functionality can then be extended.

Rinfo is written in Posix compatible shell script and thus allows you to monitor any UNIX like system without the requirement to compile it.

With nLighten, you can treat any incident on your network as a task to be solved. In the Service Problems overview, you can see all faults, acknowledge and type in information on what is being done and send notifications via e-mail into your ticket system.

We can also provide detailed integration into most IT support, ticketing systems as a customised development.

nLighten allows you to get a quick overview of any current issues on your network, allowing you to do research automatically.

You can also use time as a way of further investigating the issue – if you use trend graphs and alert history, you can see what has previously occurred, when and how often, saving time when analysing faults and reducing mean time to fix.
